Phi Thetta Kappa
My Journey with PTK
My journey with Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) has been transformative, marked by leadership, service, and a commitment to advancing the organization's mission. Through each role I have held, I’ve grown as a scholar and leader, contributing to impactful projects and fostering a strong sense of community on campus.
Spring 2024: Co-Chair of the Honors in Action Project
During the spring semester, I served as Co-chair for our chapter’s Honors in Action (HIA) project, a role that allowed me to combine leadership with meaningful action. Our project focused on preserving the rich history of Lexington, Kentucky, by partnering with The Lyric, a cultural institution dedicated to celebrating local stories. We delivered hard drives that supported The Lyric’s efforts to digitize and preserve audio recordings, including stories that highlight the diverse voices within our community. This collaboration directly contributed to the development of The Lyric’s new podcast room, ensuring that these invaluable narratives are preserved for future generations.
Fall 2024: Vice President of Scholarship
My contributions to the HIA project earned me the role of Vice President of Scholarship for the fall semester, where I took on new responsibilities. This position allowed me to focus on academic initiatives, including promoting PTK’s core values of scholarship and research. I continued to advocate for student involvement, tabling weekly to share the benefits of PTK and encouraging academic excellence among my peers.
Leadership in Service and Community Engagement
Throughout this semester, I also played a significant role in organizing events that fostered community and engagement:
Friendsgiving Pop-Up Event: I helped plan and host this Thanksgiving event, where we distributed food to students, building a sense of belonging.
Teacher Appreciation Event: I collaborated with staff to honor our educators, providing food and recognition to teachers, advisors, and staff for their invaluable contributions.
Pumpkin Carving Contest: I assisted in organizing this festive event, bringing students together for a fun and interactive activity.
Chapter President for the Upcoming Semester
My dedication to PTK has been recognized once again, as I have been elected Chapter President for the upcoming semester. This role is a testament to my commitment to the organization and my ability to lead and inspire others. As President, I look forward to continuing to promote PTK’s mission, foster a strong sense of community, and empower students to reach their full potential.
Reflecting on Growth and Impact
From my early days as Co-chair of the HIA project to my current leadership roles, PTK has been a cornerstone of my academic and personal development. Each position has challenged me to grow as a leader, collaborate with diverse groups, and make a meaningful impact on our campus and community. I am excited to build on this foundation as I take on the responsibilities of Chapter President, striving to uphold the values of Phi Theta Kappa and inspire others to do the same.
